"For me, history and politics are two sides of the same coin."

Pam Cox is a British academic, councillor, and Labour politician whose career has bridged scholarship, public service, and community advocacy. Since May 2021 she has represented New Town and Christ Church on Colchester City Council, where she has championed the city’s culture and heritage, supported youth services and community gardens, and worked to build a more inclusive civic life. In November 2022 she was selected as Labour’s prospective parliamentary candidate for Colchester, and at the 2024 general election became the constituency’s first female MP. Her parliamentary record includes voting to remove the winter fuel payment from older people, as well as supporting the Terminally Ill Adults Bill, which seeks to legalise assisted dying.

Alongside her political career, Cox has worked with police and councils to tackle anti-social behaviour and violence against women, helped design services for vulnerable mothers, and has co-authored several influential works, including Young Criminal Lives: Life Courses and Life Chances from 1850.
