“Europe must stop seeing itself as a payer and start acting as a player on the global stage.”

Nathalie Tocci is one of Europe’s most influential and thoughtful strategists on international affairs, known for her pivotal role in shaping European foreign policy and advancing a nuanced approach to diplomacy, security, and global cooperation. She currently serves as the director of the Instituto Affari Internazionali. Prior to this, she was an advisor to Federica Mogherini at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and continued to assist Mogherini when she became the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission.

Prior to her role in the EU, Tocci worked as a research fellow at the Centre for European Policy Studies and as a Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute. She writes regularly in the press, notably for Politico, where she has a column about European foreign policy, integration, and how Europe can respond to Trump.

“Nathalie’s clarity of thought and deep understanding of both global power dynamics and European values made her an invaluable advisor during a crucial time for EU foreign policy.” — Federica Mogherini, former EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
