Joseph Silk is a cosmologist and astrophysicist whose groundbreaking work on the early universe, dark matter, and galaxy formation has shaped our understanding of the universe. Currently the Savilian Professor of Astronomy Emeritus at the University of Oxford, he also holds appointments at Johns Hopkins University and the Institut d’Astrophysique de Paris.
         
Silk is also the author of several influential books on cosmology, including The Big Bang and The Infinite Cosmos and has received multiple top-tier honours including The Bakerian Medal, The Balzan Prize and The Gruber Prize in Cosmology, often dubbed "the Nobel of Cosmology."
