"I predict we will abolish suffering throughout the living world."

David Pearce is a British philosopher best known for his advocacy of the abolitionist project, the ethical vision of using advanced science and technology to eliminate suffering in all sentient life. A co-founder of the World Transhumanist Association (now Humanity+), Pearce is the author of The Hedonistic Imperative (1995), a manifesto that argues for the use of genetic engineering, nanotechnology, and neuroscience to replace the biological substrates of pain with gradients of intelligent bliss.

Pearce explores themes at the intersection of ethics, technology, and consciousness, promoting what he calls “paradise engineering”, a future in which compassion is built into our biology. His work has influenced bioethicists, transhumanists, and consciousness researchers alike.
