The descriptions 'right' and 'left' originated during the French Revolution. The left's rallying cry began with 'liberte' or 'freedom'. Yet today's left, from no platforming to cancel culture, from the economy to academic debate, often sees freedom as its enemy rather than its goal, while still claim to be on the side of 'liberte'.
Does the left need to re-engage with freedom and overcome its distaste for views it does not support? Or should the left move on and leave freedom behind in pursuit of fairness and justice for all?
