'Almost everything we think we know about Jane Austen is wrong.'

Helena Kelly is a former academic and author of The Life and Lies of Charles Dickens and Jane Austen, the Secret Radical. She is currently a visiting scholar at the Oxford Centre for Life Writing, where she is pursuing her work on the life of the Victorian writer Elizabeth Gaskell.

Her work uncovers the secret radicalism of the writers of the past and shows how they touched on subjects that, discussed overtly, would have been tantamount to treason.
