"Where exactly does general relativity break down? It’s not really answerable, since we’re talking about the breakdown of space-time itself."

Karen Crowther is a Professor at the University of Oslo, specialising in the philosophy of science and physics. Much of Crowther's research has focused on effective field theory, spacetime, and quantum gravity.

Crowther is interested in the nature of fundamental physical theories, as well as the idea of emergent physics, and the relationship between these different levels of description. Crowther is the author of Effective Spacetime: Understanding Emergence in Effective Field Theory and Quantum Gravity and, most recently, Why Do We Want a Theory of Quantum Gravity
