"The existence of things is conditional on the existence of processes."

John Dupre is Professor of Philosophy and Director of Egenis, The Centre for the Study of Life Sciences, at the University of Exeter. He has formerly held posts at Oxford, Birkbeck College, London, and Stanford. He has wide-ranging interests in the philosophy of biology and naturalistic, empirically grounded metaphysics. In 2023, he was elected to the American Philosophical Society.

Dupre advocates a pluralistic model of science as opposed to the common notion of reductionism. While reductionism of this sort is a common position among scientists and philosophers, Dupré suggests that such reduction is not possible as the world has an inherently pluralistic structure.

"Original, lucid and confident, without being eccentric, polemical or arrogant" - John Ziman
