Philosopher putting the senses under the microscope
Barry C Smith

"Don’t argue about how much salt there is in food — this can save relationships — you live in different taste worlds; you’ve got different taste buds.”

Barry Smith is Director of the Institute of Philosophy at the University of London's School of Advanced Study and co-director of the Centre for the Study of the Senses. In 2010, he made waves with his insightful BBC World Service series ""The Mysteries of the Brain.""

Barry also harbours a deep passion for wine, often hosting engaging wine-tasting events at festivals. He incorporates his studies on the multisensory nature of experience into these sessions, creating a unique, fascinating blend. Barry also lends his wine expertise to The World of Fine Wine and Prospect Magazine as a regular contributor and wine columnist.

“Well up to the task of situating wine-centered questions within a larger framework of questions about taste and perception, subjectivity and objectivity.” — The TLS
