Catherine Heymans is Astronomer Royal for Scotland, the first woman to hold the position in the UK in its 200 year history. Heymans is also Professor at the University of Edinburgh and Director of the German Centre for Cosomological Lensing at the Ruhr-University. Best known for her work on using weak gravitational lensing to investigate the Dark Universe, Heymans is one of the leaders of the European Southern Observatory project, and was awarded the Max Planck-Humboldt Research Award in 2018.
