Hugh Tomlinson QC is an English barrister, and translator of the philosopher Gilles Deleuze. He is a noted specialist in media and information law including defamation, confidence, privacy and data protection. Tomlinson is famed for the central role he played in the litigation that sought the full disclosure of UK MP’s parliamentary expenses and was also a key figure in the News of The World phone-hacking case.

Tomlinson has represented high-profile figures in privacy cases such as Prince Charles,  David and Victoria Beckham and Rio Ferdinand. He is a founding member and the Chair of Hacked Off, the campaign for a free and accountable press which was set up to campaign for a public inquiry into the phone hacking scandal.   He is a visiting professor at the London School of Economics.
