We need to rethink how power operates in the age of AI. Social theorist Steven Lukes’ now classic text Power: A Radical View sees the operation of power in three dimensions — as prevailing in observable conflicts, as preempting these by controlling agendas and, least observably, as shaping thought, desires, and beliefs. AI seems to be transforming these ways of securing the compliance of others, taking them beyond human agency altogether. Steven Lukes will return alongside philosopher Audrey Borowski to discuss these troubling questions on the occasion of a new issue of his famous analysis.
