Joanna Moncrieff is Professor of Critical and Social Psychiatry at University College London, and a consultant psychiatrist for the NHS. In 2022 she was the lead author of a landmark scientific study into the theory of serotonin and depression. She is also a founding member and co-chairperson of the Critical Psychiatry Network.
In addition to having authored numerous papers on the overuse of drug treatment for mental health problems, she is also the author of The Myth of the Chemical Cure, The Bitterest Pill. Her most recent book is Chemically Imbalanced: The Making and Unmaking of the Serotonin Myth.
