HowTheLightGetsIn provides a dedicated Medical Tent on-site, staffed by experienced professionals. Most issues can be dealt with here, and very few people will need to leave the site for treatment. If you require medical attention, please make your way to the Medical Tent. In an emergency, ask a steward, member of security, or festival staff to summon assistance.

Please do not call 999 unless it is a genuine emergency. Our on-site team can respond more quickly and appropriately.

Staying Safe and Well at HowTheLightGetsIn Hay 2025

Pregnancy

There are no midwifery or obstetric services on-site. If you are in the later stages of pregnancy, please consult with your doctor before attending the festival. In the event of labour or complications, the policy is to transfer immediately to an off-site hospital.

Infectious Diseases

To help protect other festival-goers:

  • Do not attend if you have experienced vomiting or diarrhoea in the 48 hours before arrival.
  • Avoid attending if you have a rash and fever in the days before the festival – these could be signs of measles or other infections.
  • Stay up to date with vaccinations such as MMR for protection.

Alcohol & Drugs

Drink in moderation. Stay hydrated and be mindful of your limits. Stay safe – don’t take drugs. Controlled substances are not prescribed or dispensed on-site.

Burns

Be cautious when cooking or using portable stoves. Never change gas canisters inside tents. Only use approved candles and flares. Please ensure to come prepared for sunny weather and ensure to bring suncream and sunhats.

Medication

Bring any prescription medication you need. It is also useful to bring a basic first aid kit yourself so you can treat blisters, headaches etc.

Stomach Bugs

Wash hands regularly and if you feel unwell, visit the Medical Tent. Please do not attend the festival if you have had vomiting and/or diarrhoea in the 48 hours prior to attending.

Feeling Upset or Low

If you're struggling emotionally, speak to our on-site team. They can provide support or connect you to further help.

Water

Stay hydrated! Bring a refillable bottle and use the free water points around site.

Weather

Be prepared for all conditions – suncream, raincoats, warm layers, and sturdy shoes are all advised.
