We think we understand what freedom is. But according to anthropologist and co-author of The Dawn of Everything, David Wengrow, humans have lost the ability to imagine and exercise certain freedoms that were commonplace in our ancestral past. Placing a value on liberty is not a uniquely Western value, as we have often been told. Freedom has been central to human history and the human story.
