“Psychological phenomena cannot be reduced to physiological ones any more than lightning can be reduced to thunder."

Mark Solms is a psychoanalyst, renowned for discovering the brain mechanisms of dreaming and founding the field of neuropsychoanalysis. Where mainstream neuroscience abandoned the mind in favour of the brain, Solms has spent his career insisting they cannot be separated, rehabilitating Freud's deepest insights and grounding them in 21st-century science. He holds the Chair of Neuropsychology at the University of Cape Town and Groote Schuur Hospital, and serves as the President of the South African Psychoanalytical Association.

Solms is the author of The Brain and the Inner World, a bestseller translated into 13 languages, and The Hidden Spring: A Journey to the Source of Consciousness. His forthcoming work, The Only Cure, seeks to rehabilitate the legacy of pyschoanalysis for a 21st-century audience.

"It would be difficult to improve on Solms's credentials for the task he sets himself" — Raymond Tallis, The Guardian
