Mariana Mazzucato is Professor in the Economics of Innovation and Public Value at University College London, where she is Founding Director of the UCL Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose (IIPP). Her latest book, The Common Good Economy, argues that economics lacks a coherent theory of the common good — and that doing good cannot remain a correction for market failure, but must become an objective we design and work towards together. Built around a practical "common good compass," the book sets out how governments, business and citizens can move from correcting mistakes to shaping outcomes, from tackling inequality to the climate crisis.

Mazzucato is also the author of The Entrepreneurial State, The Value of Everything, Mission Economy, and The Big Con. She advises policymakers around the world on innovation-led inclusive and sustainable growth, including as Chair of the World Health Organization's Council on the Economics of Health for All, Co-Chair of the Global Commission on the Economics of Water, and Special Adviser to South Africa's G20 Presidency. In 2021, she received the Grande Ufficiale Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana from the Italian President – Italy's highest civilian honour.
