"I find philosophy—philosophy in the largest sense—a profoundly concrete, sensual activity."

Galen Strawson is a British philosopher renowned for his work on consciousness, the self, and the limits of human freedom. Currently Professor of Philosophy at the University of Texas at Austin, Strawson is one of the most distinguished voices in contemporary analytic philosophy.

Strawson is best known for his defence of panpsychism—the view that consciousness is a fundamental feature of reality—as well as his influential critique of the idea of moral responsibility in “The Impossibility of Moral Responsibility.” He has also challenged conventional ideas of personal identity, arguing that many people do not experience themselves as persisting “selves” over time.

"Galen Strawson opens windows and finds light-switches like no other philosopher writing today." — Stephen Fry
