Sir Simon Wessely is a renowned psychiatrist and epidemiologist. He is currently Professor of Psychological Medicine at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King's College London, on the NHS England Board and former President of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. He has co-authored books on chronic fatigue syndrome (which he helped bring into maintstream diagnosis) and writes for the FInancial TImes, the New Statesmen and The Times.
He was recently elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of London. This is given to individuals who have made a ""substantial contribution to the improvement of natural knowledge."" This was for his work in psychiatry and medical science.
