Sunetra Gupta is an acclaimed novelist, essayist and scientist. She is currently professor of Theoretical Epidemiology at the University of Oxford and an outspoken critic of public health measures to curb covid-19. Her academic interests lie in the infectious disease agents that are responsible for HIV, the flu, malaria and bacterial meningitis.
Sunetra has won many esteemed awards including the Scientific Medal by the Zoological Society of London, and the prestigious Royal Society Rosalind Franklin Award for her research. In 2012, she appeared on the popular BBC Radio 4 programme ‘The Life Scientific’ to discuss her epidemiological work, as well as the link between fiction and mathematics.
In recent months, Sunetra made headlines with her outspoken comments against the widespread acceptance of Imperial College’s model of coronavirus deaths.
