Peter Pomerantsev is a Soviet-born British journalist. As Visiting Senior Fellow at the Institute of Global Affairs, London School of Economics, Pomerantsev is co-director of the Arena programme, whose stated aim is to analyse "the root causes of distorted information, polarisation and hate speech", and create a counter-response.
The son of eminent journalist Igor Pomerantsev, Peter moved with his family to West Germany after his father was arrested by the KGB for disseminating anti-Soviet literature. He began writing about Russia in 2011, coining the term "post-modern dictatorship" to describe the Putin regime. He has extended the label to the presidency of Donald Trump, noting that "President Trump and President Putin share a disdain for facts ... this is part of their appeal."
