“Our solar system is barely middle-aged and if humans avoid self-destruction, the post-human era beckons.”

After graduating with a first-class degree in mathematics from Cambridge, Martin Rees rose quickly to become an authority on the field of cosmology. He has co-authored more than 500 academic papers on subjects as intoxicating as the Big Bang and Dark Matter. Martin is currently Astronomer Royal, is a long-standing member of the House of Lords, and has previously been President of the Royal Society – a position that Isaac Newton once held. More recently, Martin pointed out in his 2018 book, On the Future: Prospects for Humanity, that there is no “Plan B” for planet Earth. If we don’t harness the power of science to combat climate change and to safely implement AI, he says, there will be no humanity left to protect.

"Martin Rees offers a compelling vision of our future – on Earth and in space." – Elon Musk
