The discovery of the Higgs boson, dubbed the God particle, was celebrated worldwide as an explanation for mass itself. Yet all is not well and there is talk at CERN of 'the nightmare scenario'. For there have been no new discoveries to enable an elegant theory to make sense of the current chaos.  Should we abandon supersymmetry, string theory, and other attempts to provide a theory of everything? Was the Higgs a key step towards a final theory, or is the theory behind it and particle physics itself in real trouble?
