Val Gibson is Professor of Physics at the University of Cambridge and a top science communicator.
After studying at Sheffield and Oxford, Val became a fellow at CERN, joining the Experimental Physics Division. She has since worked at the Large Hadron Collider and was the official UK spokesperson for the Collider's "Beauty" experiment from 2004 to 2008. She is currently chair of the CERN Collaboration Board.
Val champions women in science regularly in the media, and also seeks to popularise science to the general public. She developed the card game Hunt the Higgs, in which players take the roles of Large Hadron Collider detectors all searching for the Higgs boson.
