Nigel Shadbolt is Research Fellow at Oxford’s Department of Computer Science whose work examines how intelligent behaviour manifests in humans, machines, and on the Web. Shadbolt is Chairman of the Open Data Institute, which he co-founded with Sir Tim Berners-Lee. The Institute produces research on the management and ownership of data, informed by an underlying conviction that transparent data policy is of the highest public importance.
Shadbolt has made interventions in natural language theory, robotics, and the nascent discipline of Web studies, which examines the World Wide Web as a large-scale social system.
