"Art is my weapon, my way of serving" - Kwame Kwei-Armah
Actor, playwright and director, Kwame Kwei-Armah is the Artistic Director of the Young Vic. Before joining the Young Vic, Kwame was the Director of the Baltimore Centre Stage Theatre and was subsequently named best director in the city three years in a row. Raised in west London, Kwame was given the name Ian Roberts, a name he changed at 19 after tracing his family’s heritage to Ghana. The play Kwame wrote inspired by his own upbringing was performed at the National Theatre, which made him the second Afro-Caribbean British playwright to have a play performed in a major West End venue.
