"I just want to be free on stage." ~ Helen Lederer
Helen Lederer is a British comedian, writer, and actor. Originally trained as a social worker, she rose to acclaim during the UK's "alternative comedy" wave in the 1980s. She has enjoyed roles in a series of celebrated shows including, most famously, Absolutely Fabulous, French and Saunders and Girls on Top. She recently published her debut comic novel, Losing It.
Lederer sees her comedy as something more than just an opportunity for hilarity, treating the medium as a way to discuss touchy topics ranging from middle-age to sex. She comes to the festival to discuss the place and purpose of comedy in the modern world.
"One of life's eccentrics and frighteningly honest" ~ Mirror
