Danielle Sands is Lecturer in Comparative Literature and Culture at Royal Holloway where she works across disciplines, bridging philosophy, literary studies and critical theory. Danielle was educated at Durham University and the University of Edinburgh before joining Royal Holloway as a lecturer in Philosophy in 2014. Since then, she moved to the department of Language, Literature and Cultures where she researches post-Kantian European philosophy, aesthetics and environmental ethics.
In 2018 Danielle received a British Academy Rising Star Award and in 2019 she authored her first book Animal Writing: Storytelling, Selfhood and the Limits of Empathy - a critical reading of philosophy and fiction in parallel that proposes a new animal ethics not limited by the contingence of empathy.
