Once Britain was the dominant power, then the US, now, with the largest economy in the world by purchasing power, it seems it is China's turn. But is this a more permanent shift? With neighbouring India growing at a similar rate, and a combined population four times that of the US and Europe, is the age of the West over not for a decade or even a century, but for a millennium to come? Should we accept, even welcome, the passing of the West? Or is there a response that would enable the West to retain significance, if not the dominance it once had?
