We think theories are implausible if they defy common sense. Yet once the Earth was known to be flat, atoms were solid and the world had a creator. Should we conclude that common sense, or the current wisdom, is of no value when assessing a theory? But if so, how do we make our judgments? Do we not inevitably rely on the conventions of our time? And if we didn't, would anyone take us seriously?
