'Christian theology is a hair's breadth away from nihilism'.

John Milbank is an English Anglican theologian and Emeritus Professor at the University of Nottingham. In addition, he is chairman of the trustees of the think tank ResPublica and President of the Centre of Theology and Philosiophy.

In Theology and Social Theory 1980, he gained notoriety for laying the foundation of 'radical orthodoxy'. This sought to integrate systematic theology, social theory and ethics. Since then he has co-authored books with Slavoj Žižek and Creston Davis as well as delivering the Stanton lecture at Cambridge in 2011.

'In my atheism, I am more Christian than Milbank.'—Slavoj Žižek
